Ok, so next spring, I would really love to get my Moon Garden up. I know of quite a bit of references on plants to use, but I want something a little bit more than just a wide range of white flowers and silvery foliage. What flowers open in the evening? I know of two or three. Anyone have any ideas?
Here are some that I found for you, but I don't know if they are toxic or not...
Casablanca Lily. Perennial. Blooms at night. Very fragrant. Grows 2 to 6 feet in height.
Climbing hydrangea. Blooms at night. New leaves turn from pink to gold to dark green. Large white flowers. Vine grows to 30 feet.
Evening Primrose. Biennial. Blooms at night.
Four O'Clocks. Perennial. Blooms in late afternoon and at night.
Gardenia. Evergreen shrub. Blooms at night.
Night Blooming Jasmine. Perennial. Grows 8 to 10 feet.
Mock Orange. Shrub. Fragrant orange scent with white flowers. Grows to 10 feet.
Moonflower. Vine. Blooms at night. Related to the Morning Glory.
Nicotiana or Flowering Tobacco. Nicotiana is a hardy plant that will take over the yard if you allow it. Growing to a height of 3 to 5 feet, it produces white flowers.
Night Gladiolus. Bulb. Yellow flowers blooms with a spicy frangrance. Blooms at night.
Night Phlox. Annual. Sweet smelling almond vanilla scent to flowers. Blooms at night.
Those are some great plants, thank you for posting them. I know that there is also a good way to spread balance by using plants that have silver foliage, such as the dusty miller. I know there are quite a few more that work well in moon garden, but can't think of it off the top of my head atm.
Yea, a lot of moon garden flowers are poisonous. That is why I'm going to build a large raised bed in the back. The kitties should stay away from poisonous things, they tend to have an instinct about that.
